How To Choose Flowers For A Rustic Wedding

EDITORIAL

With wedding guest-lists growing smaller and smaller, it’s possible to hold your solemnisation at a garden location and decorate it with all the trimmings worthy of a Pinterest board! Here’s a styled shoot held at Sentosa Cove that marries rustic elements with vintage details to inspire you.

Important details include doily linen, copper-hued cutlery, candelabras and loads of candles are key to creating a rustic-themed wedding, not forgetting a delicious cake embellished with fresh foliage, and woody floral arch for the wedding ceremony.

Keep the floral palette clean with fresh white blooms. E'an, owner and florist of Cotton and Sage used whites and greens for this shoot to blend with the verdant backdrop. “To achieve the soft, rustic look, I used a variety of leaves and flowers to create different textures for visual interest. The flowers used for the bridal bouquet were focused on romantic and soft blooms such as peonies, astilbes and jasmine. Virburnum Snowballs, hydrangeas, roses, matthiolas and eustomas were also used to beautify the scene,” she explains.

TIP: Avoid overly-delicate blooms like delphiniums, which will wilt if they are not properly hydrated. E’an also strongly believes in using what is in season (in this case, peonies) as they are more affordable than when purchased off-season.
