Choosing The Right Lingerie For Your Wedding Dress

EDITORIAL

With your wedding day creeping up on you, searching for the perfect dress is most likely one of your main concerns right now. Here’s a little reminder: It is also imperative to consider your accompanying lingerie under all those layers. Unfortunately, your usual fare just won’t cut it on your big day. Not sure where to begin? We’re here to help.

If your dress is or has ...

A deep V-neckline

Wear: Bra with special cut-out

Gowns with deep plunging necklines are sensual and bring out your assets, but this means regular lingerie are a no-go. Opt for low-cut bras with a special cut-out at the front instead. If need be, apply a liberal dose of fashion tape to hold your dress down.

Strapless

Wear: Bustier

Strapless gowns are one of the most popular silhouettes, and while most of them have boning sewn in the bodice, a bustier can offer you extra support to prevent slippage by cinching your waist should you wish it. You know the one: strapless with a form-hugging corset-like bodice that wraps around your body.

Backless

Wear: Adhesive bra

This one is a no-brainer. Not only do nude silicon cups look invisible, they also add a little fullness and lift to your bust (hooray). The best part? They are fairly easy to find.

Halter

Wear: Convertible bra

Halter gowns are very charming, but it won’t do for those bra straps to be seen. Instead, go for a convertible bra with removable straps, so that you can customise the strap to your gown type. In this case, look for one where the strap can go over your neck.

Mermaid silhouette

Wear: Shapewear

Mermaid gowns are very flattering because they are fitted close to the body from chest to knee, but due to this very same reason, many opt to wear shapewear underneath for a slimmer shape. Spanx is your best friend. Remember to look for one without a visible panty line.

Thin fabric

Wear: Full body shapewear

For the slinkiest of dresses, bras and panty lines will still be fairly visible underneath those layers of fabric. The last thing you want to do on your big day is accidentally flash someone. Invest in a nude full body shapewear for a seamless and slimmer look.
