Singaporean Men Celebrate The Ladies Who Have Inspired Them
Hey, we do not blame you if you have always thought Singaporean males were a little non-expressive or on the shy side. For International Women’s Day (8 March, today!), however, 11 brave males - from undergraduates to businessmen - have shrugged off the stereotype to celebrate their own heroines.
And we’re not talking superstars like Jessica Alba or Megan Fox, mind you. We’re referring to mothers, grandmothers, wives — ordinary ladies who have made extraordinary differences to the men in their lives.
I will be honest — preparing this was a rather emotional experience. To my questions, like "Is there a lady who inspires you?" and "What would you like to say them?", I expected responses like “Nah, no one inspires me”, or “Does Miranda Kerr count?”. However, what I got in return were heartfelt and earnest replies about women closer to home, and heart.
Prepare the tissues.
There is this one friend whom I would like to give a big hug to. Pearls, you have always been a strong lady who works hard and gives your best in everything. Thank you for always being there, even if you're going through a tough time yourself. Thank you for always being so spontaneous and joining me on random adventures. Last but not least, thank you for being you. — Jun Xian, 25
The woman who inspires me the most is definitely my mother. I can’t imagine how my mother managed to bring up two children and juggle work at the same time. She also gave up her job at one point to take care of me, and she has always been the cool-headed one in the family keeping everything together. She never doubted my crazy aspirations and spurred me on to chase after my dreams even if no one else believed in them. — Aaron, 26
