5 Beautiful Years With Zoe Tay

What do you get when five local celeb make-up artists collaborate with Zoe Tay for a special beauty feature? Answer: a bold beauty spread with an evergreen charm. Created in collaboration with acclaimed photographer Mark Law and fashion director Jeremy Tan, 5 Beautiful Years With Zoe Tay is a nod to the all-time favourite artiste’s enduring appeal.

Always elegant and poised, and often featured on the covers of glossies, Ah Jie has steadily established her undisputed status as Singapore’s top fashion and beauty icon throughout her 29 years in showbiz. For this project, all five make-up artists – Andy Lee, Peter Khor, Elain Lim, Cindy Goh, Clarence Lee – were given free rein to express their creativity. No guidelines were given, except to have Zoe look her best, and boy did she transform for the camera.

Here, the beauty mavens share the inspiration behind their chosen looks, as well as tips and tricks on how you can achieve it too.

Look #1: Shimmer and Shine by Andy Lee
For this look, Andy was inspired by the brilliance of crystals. To recreate a similar effect on Zoe, Andy chose to focus on her eyes, and kept the rest of her make-up simple. As you will notice in the video, Clé de Peau Beauté’s Eye Color Quad in 306 was used to add lots of sparkly shine to her gorgeous peepers.

“To complement her sparkly eye make-up, her complexion has to be luminous. I used Le Fond de Teint from Clé de Peau Beauté to achieve that,” shares Andy. “I like how this foundation provides great coverage."

Look #2: Modern Classic by Peter Khor
And as for FAC3INC’s co-founder Peter Khor, he opted for a modern yet timeless concept – think a dark smokey eye, glowing complexion (Chanel’s Les Beige Healthy Glow Foundation) and nude lip (Make Up For Ever’s Artist Rouge Light in L301).

“To achieve a glowing complexion, it’s important to use a primer like the Radiance Primer from Nars,” adds Peter.

Look #3: Candy Lips by Elain Lim
Candy-hued lips take centre stage for Elain’s creation, and her lipstick of choice for Zoe was Too Faced’s Melted Matte Lipstick in 1998. Other key products used: the Nars Sculpting Multiple Duo Stick and Synchro Skin Glow Luminizing Fluid Foundation.

An important tip from Elain? Skin prep is very important before makeup application – don’t forget to moisturise and prime!

Look #4: Sensual Chic by Cindy Goh
Is there anything sexier than a soft smokey eye and bold red lip? Here, Cindy used Too Faced’s Melted Matte in Lady Balls, Chanel’s Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow, and the Velvet Eyeliner from Nars.

Look #5: Amazonian Glow by Clarence Lee
Achieve a healthy, bronzed glow with Clarence Lee’s look for Ah Jie.  “It’s been a long time since I’ve created such a look for Zoe,” shares Clarence. Lots of shine is important for this look, so no dusting of loose powder is required. Clarence used Diorskin Nude Air Serum Foundation on Zoe and gave her a light sweep of Diorskin Nude Air Luminizer to highlight the high points of her face!
